This Bob Turner composition feels and sounds like it came straight from Russia, hence the nickname “Russian Sleigh Ride”. Written in C minor, this piece has a modal quality with a Christmas concert feel. There is a slightly slower section in the middle which features the lower brass playing the “Russian Work Song”. The band quickly returns to the original melody. The percussion section will enjoy playing the temple blocks.

This arrangement is based on the Christmas Carol “Good King Wenceslas” and features the percussion section playing a rock style beat utilizing snare drum, bass drum, closed hi-hat and sleigh bells. The lower brass fills in for the walking string bass and really has it’s work cut out for them. Watch out for the blues section in the middle complete with rhythm breaks.

This arrangement of the famous Christmas Carol starts with an eight bar fanfare but quickly moves to the melody with a back beat feel. The lower brass takes the tune for a while. When we get to the second time around the melody has a more mellow tone to it. Then we return to the top for the finale! Your timpani player will get a chance to try out his rolling technique.
